In a recent interview with Peter H. Diamandis for the Moonshots and Mindsets Podcast, Emad Mostaque, the founder and CEO of Stability AI, made a bold prediction: “There will be no programmers in five years.”

Mostaque’s vision of the future is one shaped by the transformative power of artificial intelligence and he believes that AI will play an increasingly dominant role in shaping our world.

Mostaque’s argument is supported by data from GitHub, which reveals that an astounding 41 percent of all code currently in existence is AI-generated.

Stability AI’s open-source image generator, Stable Diffusion, has surpassed the popularity of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum on GitHub in just three months. These statistics serve as a testament to the growing prominence and appeal of AI.

Stability AI is not content with just being at the forefront of AI development. The company has ambitious projects in various sectors, ranging from protein folding and DNA analysis to language models and audio-visual data processing.

Mostaque envisions creating the building blocks for a “society OS,” a comprehensive AI infrastructure that can be personalised to reflect individual narratives and perspectives.

Looking ahead, Mostaque predicts a revolution in communication and information access. He believes that within a year, we will have AI models like ChatGPT directly installed on our mobile phones, eliminating the need for an internet connection. This advancement could radically transform our conversational interactions and pave the way for new possibilities.

While the progress of AI brings about concerns regarding its impact on society, Stability AI is addressing these issues head-on. By decentralising AI and making it accessible to individuals and communities, the company aims to ensure that AI technology works for the benefit of people, rather than against them.

Mostaque emphasises Stability AI’s commitment to transparency and democratising access to AI, as evidenced by the open-sourcing of their large language models.

Job security is another area of concern when it comes to the rise of AI. However, Mostaque takes an optimistic view, similar to Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin. He sees AI as a tool that enhances human potential rather than a threat that replaces humans.

According to Mostaque, by providing humans with valuable information, AI has the potential to change the world for the better.
